Position Title: Legal and Compliance Officer
Possibilities Africa Kenya is a Christian ministry whose vision is to see the socio-economic, spiritual, cultural, and mental transformation of households in rural communities of Africa through the local church.
We exist to equip rural Church leaders, their congregants, and communities to live productive and dignified lives through a holistic transformation approach to ministry and living.
Our key result areas are leadership development, Spiritual discipleship, economic productivity, social-cultural transformation, and child mentorship which are developed in unison as a holistic package.
Further and in furtherance of our vision, Possibilities Africa believes that to transform Africa we must mobilize and engage local African talents, treasures, and time for the transformation of their families and communities.
Possibilities Africa Kenya currently serves in Kenya, Malawi, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Ethiopia, with a vision to expand into at least 20 more countries by the year 2030.
We are currently seeking to recruit for the position as listed below to serve at our Head Office.
Legal and Compliance Officer
The purpose of this role is to work with the IED and the board to ensure Possibilities Africa attains the highest level of governance, and compliance standards being an organization that operates across several jurisdictions through affiliates, partners, and community groups.
The post will provide support in the management of risk and ensure that the organization is compliant with its regulatory and statutory obligations.
The role will support the functioning of the main and affiliated boards while helping the IED in decision-making that enhances organizational compliance.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Responsible to develop organizational legal and compliance frameworks and advisory for the IED and the board of directors enabling them to carry out their duties and make decisions in a legally and statutorily compliant manner.
2. Actively develop the organization’s governance including supporting the recruitment, training & development, retention, and succession planning of directors, and senior management.
3. Responsible for planning board meetings, board minutes taking,
board documents management, and supporting the functioning of the board
and its subcommittees to understand, perform and evaluate their
responsibilities.
4. Responsible to set, effect and enforce compliance, legal, and statutory requirements, and standards, routinely reviewing the same to ensure the organization, its ministry groups and affiliated entities are always operating in total compliance.
5. Manages the execution of internal contracts and external contracts including HR, suppliers, landlords, ministry partners, and other contracts.
6. Assesses organizational risks and develops, proposes, and monitors the implementation of mitigating measures
7. Handles filing of returns and compliance matters and ensures the same is done in all jurisdictions where PAK operates.
8. Guides the development of various organizational internal policies and supports their enforcement by line managers
9. Responsible for the creation and maintenance of all organizational legal documents while guiding and
supporting organizational document management policy.
10. Creates and enforces communication standards and monitors compliance to the same including email, website, photography, videography, and other publishing and communication taking care to eliminate any potential risks.
11. Takes the lead in addressing any complaints against the organization or its people
12. Responsible for the development and administration of all working
agreements and MOUs between PAK and PA (USA) and with any other groups
that PAK may work with and from time to time leading the
reviews of the same to comply with changing environment
13. Provides legal guidance in the efforts to set up work or register the organization in new legal jurisdictions while ensuring alignment to PAK agenda, vision, mission, organization structure, and legal frameworks.
14. Develops guiding compliance framework, procedure, standards, and compliance to anchor the formation of PAK community groups, taking steps to train relevant organizational staff in the same and undertaking monitoring and evaluation from time to time to ensure that all PA groups and outfits are compliant to the law and contracts entered
15. Undertakes other duties relevantly assigned by IED or the board of directors.
Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in a legal or business course
- Trained Certified Public secretary
- At least 5 years of broad experience covering as many of the responsibilities
- Conversant with the African legal landscape and jurisdictions
- Able, available, and willing to travel
