Salary level: The starting salary for this role will be $91,000 USD Annually for US-based staff. To be locally benchmarked if based outside of the US.

The Team

The Position
As Director of Learning and Leadership Development you will drive Mercy Corps’ learning experiences from strategy through execution. You will work with organizational leaders to build Mercy Corps as a learning organization while ensuring initiatives identify, assess and enable individual and team development and growth across Mercy Corps.
You will manage a well positioned leadership development team and expand the learning function to ensure a coherent learning and growth experience for Mercy Corps team members. You will execute on the shift to virtual/hybrid learning, delivering learning in a transforming culture that prioritizes programmatic impact and individual growth. This high-value work will have a clear and lasting impact on Mercy Corps’ culture and business success.
What You Will Do – Responsibilities
Develop and implement an overarching strategy and vision for individual, team and organizational learning at Mercy Corps with close interdepartmental collaboration.
Oversee the delivery of learning and leadership development experiences for Mercy Corps team members – creating an impactful suite of ongoing learning experiences using relevant research and a variety of mediums to drive agency learning goals.
Partner across teams to ensure learning strategy and initiatives focus on building leadership capacity and contribute to career pathways for team members at all levels.
Oversee a cross departmental learning working group to identify opportunities for collaboration and synergy across agency learning and training initiatives.
Integrate learning and leadership development across the entire team member lifecycle from onboarding, coaching, performance management and talent movement.
Coordinate across multiple teams and platforms to ensure effectiveness of learning technologies across Mercy Corps in partnership with the People Systems and Analytics team.
Increase adoption of current leadership programs and learning engagements, innovate to improve learner experience and ensure the right content is delivered to the right learner, at the right time, in the right format.
Leverage innovative and scalable approaches to learning and leadership development to ensure that we are keeping diverse team members at the core and are making equitable and measurable impact.
Redefine coaching and mentorship initiatives at Mercy Corps with a clear strategy and equitable approach to ensure leaders have the right supports in place to strive and grow.
Identify new opportunities to expand current learning and leadership offerings through consulting global stakeholders, strategic business needs and ensuring principles of equity and inclusion are at the forefront.
Define measurement framework and performance indicators to reflect and adapt
Lead the integration learning and leadership development at Mercy Corps to identify pathways for team members to reach their potential and for the organization to reflect, adapt and evolve.
Personal Leadership
Lead an experienced team of learning and leadership collaborators that develop and facilitate programs, initiatives and solutions globally.
Recruit and develop the capacity of the Learning and Leadership Development team with a deep understanding of their roles and ensuring opportunities for growth and career development.
Collaborate with People Team Leadership to ensure integration, collaboration and healthy team dynamics across the People Team.
In partnership with Senior Director, oversee an operational budget to support effective use of resources.
Model a culture of integrity by maintaining high ethical standards and treating people with respect and dignity
Nurture Mercy Corps’ culture by promoting the development and advancement of ideas allowing for new and unique approaches to problem-solving

Who you are – Qualifications & Transferable Skills
- 7+ years of experience in leadership roles focused on learning and/or leadership development.
- A BA/S or equivalent (MBA, Human Resources, Learning, Leadership, etc.).
- Deep knowledge of how people learn/change behaviors and how to deliver large-scale programs and interventions.
- Proven expertise in using data to inform decisions on effectiveness of development experiences – and an understanding of what creates both learning and behavior change resulting in measurable improvement.
- Experience using technology to curate and deliver high-impact learning.
- Demonstrated ability to partner and collaborate across the organization, with external partners and with vendors to deliver successful learning and leadership development experiences.
- A leader who thrives in a transforming environment, ambiguity and building effective solutions that scale and work through in person and remote environments.
- A design thinker, who is passionate about helping people learn and grow, at all levels.
- Data-centric and able to leverage relevant research to design and deliver impactful learning experiences.
- A clear, and consistent communicator with strong leadership, vision and management capabilities.
- System thinking skills, with the ability to integrate the overall learner experience across content domains and systems
- Proven track record of streamlining and automating processes to create greater efficiencies
- Able to build and develop teams as well as work in a matrixed environment
- Ability to own a variety of projects in a fast-paced environment
- Strong analytical skills and ability to interrupt data to drive outcomes

Living Conditions / Environmental Conditions
This position can be based remotely in the US, UK, or Kenya. It requires minimal international travel in support of Mercy Corps programs, though up to 10% travel domestically can be expected. This position may be asked to travel on occasion with little notice.
