SOS Children’s Villages in Kenya is a child-focused Non-Governmental Organization established in 1973 to provide care and support to children who have lost or are at risk of losing the care of their biological family.
The organization’s vision is “No child should grow up alone” and its
programmes are driven by the mission of “building families for children
in need, helping them shape their own futures and sharing in the
development of their communities”.
In this regard, the organization works to reduce poverty; increase access to quality education and decent work; reduce inequalities and build strong institutions as laid out in SDGs 1, 4,8,10 and 16.
This is done through programmes that are geared towards addressing the political, economic, health and
social root causes that lead to high levels of child vulnerability and put families at risk of breaking down.
The programmes focus on Alternative Care, Family Strengthening, Youth Empowerment, Education,
Health Care and Advocacy.
SOS Children’s Villages in Kenya implements programmes in five (5) of Kenya’s 47 Counties namely
Nairobi, Mombasa, Uasin Gishu, Kisumu and Meru.
We seek to recruit suitably qualified persons to fill the following position.
Programme Accountant
1 Position (Mombasa)
Job Summary: Under the supervision of the Programme Director, the Programme Accountant will be responsible for supporting the Programme Director with the day to day running of the Children’s Village, the Youth and the Family Strengthening programmes in Mombasa.
S/he will oversee the daily finance and planning activities to meet the requisite compliance standards as stipulated within SOS-CV Kenya policy and procedures both for the organization and as governed by law.
Key performance areas and main responsibilities:
1. Financial Reporting
- Budget preparation and monitoring
- Preparation of location financial reports and provide support in variance analysis
- Data entry and proper filing of documents in respect to all processes
- Perform monthly data entry checks on Navision data to ensure data quality
- In a timely manner, address all data quality issues raised by the National Office, in respect to the
location - Prepare and review of all payments (for compliance to the law and grant agreement) before
forwarding the same to the Programme Director - Update and reconcile all payables listing (including accruals)
- Update and reconcile all receivables listing
2. Bank Reconciliation
- Prepare monthly bank and petty cash reconciliation for the said facilities
3. Audits
- Assist in coordination of internal and external audit
- Ensuring all internal and external audit issues raised in respect to the location are closed in a timely manner
Minimum Qualifications & Experience Required
1. A Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or Accounting from a recognized institution of higher learning.
2. A CPA part 2 is desirable
3. A minimum of 3 years working experience with progressive responsibility preferably with an international NGO
4. A good understanding of financial statistics and accounting principles, with working knowledge of all
statutory legislation and regulations pertaining to finance.
5. Proficient user of MS –Navision Dynamics is preferred. Knowledge Excel and Word is a must.
6. Able to work under pressure, with strong organizational, planning, prioritization and execution skills
and the ability take accountability for results and achievement of objectives.
7. Enthusiastic, decisive, pragmatic and dynamic hands-on individual with a sense of urgency, attention
to detail, thoroughness and unquestionable integrity.
