Position Title: School Head Teacher

A prestigious private primary school located in Kitengela, is looking for self-driven, energetic, competent, and motivated teaching staff to provide professional leadership and effective teaching.

Re: School Head Teacher

Reporting to the School Board of Management, the Head teacher will be responsible for leadership, supervisory and operational management of the school.

He/she will serve as the instructional leader and evaluator of school’s staff.

The candidate will define the responsibilities and accountability of staff members and oversee the plans for interpreting the school curriculum.

Job Responsibilities

Administration

  • Develops annual goals and a strategic plan for the school, ensuring the school vision is clearly articulated, shared, understood, and acted upon effectively by all
  • Acts as a student advocate to ensure the rights of all students are respected and that all have equal access to the educational opportunities necessary to meet their needs and abilities.
  • Maintain high level of discipline in the school for both teachers and students by exercising authority over the behavior and conduct of pupils, professional and nonprofessional staff, visitors, and any other persons using the school.
  • Participate in the formulation and development of school policies and administrative regulations related to the operation of the school.
  • Prepares or supervises the creation of all reports, records, and other paperwork as required by the School Committee that may be appropriate to the school’s administration.
  • Building effective relationships with parents, education partners and external stakeholders

Curriculum and instructions

  • Lead the development, evaluation, and revision of CBC curriculum and assume responsibility for the implementation of approved programs.
  • Monitor coordination and curriculum articulation among and between the grades
  • Guide the evaluation of instructional materials, including textbooks, computer programs, library/media acquisitions, and other instructional materials.
  • Coordinate the formulation, planning, and implementation of a staff development program for school personnel and direct the program within the school.
  • Oversee implementation of teaching approaches and methodologies consistent with all students while encouraging staff to develop strategies, techniques and activities that reflect instructional diversity, alternatives, and flexibility.
  • Provide regular feedback to colleagues in a way that recognizes good practice and supports their progress against professional and performance management objectives
  • Monitoring coverage of the syllabus, quality of teaching and effectiveness of learning outcomes

Students’ services

  • Maintain high standards of student safety, conducts, and reinforce discipline as necessary in accordance with School Committee policy and the students’ rights to due process.
  • Enforces uniform and appearance policy to ensure a school environment that is focused on group spiritual and academic achievement
  • Provide leadership and guidance in administration, implementation and supervision of field trips, co-curricular and other school-based events.

Key Qualifications and Experience

  • Holder of degree or Diploma in Primary Education (P1) or equivalent qualification
  • Minimum 5 years relevant working experience in a school set up, 3 years of which should have been in a school leadership position.
  • Demonstrate proven track record in educational leadership including school administration, classroom instruction, lesson plans, student assessment and staff development.
  • A sound understanding of recent developments in the primary school curriculum
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills that enables open communication with parents, teachers, and learners.
  • A self-motivated, energetic person who enjoys working in a busy and dynamic working environment.
  • The flexibility to learn and adapt to new cultures with good coaching and mentoring skills
  • Demonstrates ability to think and act critically, creatively, and independently
  • Pro-active and committed individual who can work with minimum supervision
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft packages with ability to use data effectively in setting targets and understanding pupil and staff progress.
  • Registration with Teacher Service Commission (TSC).
