Vice Chancellor Open Vacancy in Kenya - Pan Africa Christian University

The Search Committee, of the Pan Africa Christian (PAC) University Council, invites applications from qualified persons for the post of Vice Chancellor. This strategic leadership position, reports to the University Council. PAC University is an institution of higher learning chartered by the Commission for University Education (CUE) in 2008. It is sponsored/owned by Christ is the Answer Ministries (CITAM). All applicants must be born again Christians serving in a local church.

Minimum Academic Qualifications

At least an Associate Professor or equivalent and a holder of an earned PhD from a university recognized by the CUE

Minimum Experience

At least twelve (12) years of academic, research and leadership experience at a senior level in a university or equivalent institution with demonstrated leadership acumen and possessing the highest level of integrity, morals, competence and institutional commitment.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Vice Chancellor has the overall responsibility for ensuring the achievement of the vision and mission of the university in addition to the following duties and responsibilities:

  1. Responsible to the Governing Council, through the Chair, for providing the direction, organization, development, and administration of all the programs of the University;
  2. To provide the University Council with such reports on University affairs as it requires to fulfil its functions effectively;
  3. To serve as the Chair of the Management Board and Senate, convening meetings as necessary to ensure the effective functioning of these bodies and the University;
  4. To oversee the implementation of the policies laid down by the University Council and the decisions of the Senate and the Management Board;
  5. To spearhead the building and maintaining of a Biblically based culture, including maintaining harmony and cooperation among academic and administrative staff;
  6. To ensure that the financial and other needs of the University are made known in an appropriate way to the supporting constituencies;
  7. To ensure that the accounts of the University are kept in a manner acceptable to the University Council;
  8. To assume administrative and academic responsibility for the day to day operation of the University and its management;
  9. To be the representative and spokesperson of the University;
  10. To evaluate the performance of the Deputy Vice Chancellors, Principals of Colleges and all those senior officers that report to the Vice Chancellor;
  11. To ensure that each member of the University, other than students and alumni, makes the affirmation as required by the Charter;
  12. To spearhead the partnerships and collaborations which the university may enter into with the Sponsor and any other stakeholders from time to time;
  13. To perform any other duties consistent with the fulfilment of the vision, mission, aims, philosophy, and objectives of the University.

Qualifications and Experience

  1. Have a track record which demonstrates the ability to lead, direct and grow an institution;
  2. Be at least an Associate Professor and holder of an earned PhD or equivalent qualification recognized in Kenya;
  3. Have had at least (12) years of academic, research and leadership experience at a senior level in a University or equivalent institution with demonstrable leadership and management capacity;
  4. Have proven scholarly record demonstrated by publications in internationally peer reviewed journals, monographs, books and book chapters in their areas of specialization, and supervision and mentorship of Masters and Doctoral students;
  5. Have good understanding of the Financial and Fiscal Policies, Strategic Planning, Human Resource Management and Procurement and Asset Disposal processes;
  6. Be a person with proven visionary capabilities who must have been involved in Christian ministry and in leadership roles;
  7. Have demonstrable record of strategic leadership in formulation and implementation of academic, administrative, planning and financial programmes, development of strategic institutional linkages, staff and student exchange;
  8. Have thorough knowledge in the structural, legislative and regulatory framework for administering university education in Kenya;
  9. Have demonstrable experience in networking, fundraising and resource mobilization for research, scholarships and development;
  10. Have demonstrable understanding of and be able to promote and enhance the existing and emerging technological innovations for better learning and management of the university;
  11. Have excellent understanding of current trends in university education and training globally and the factors and conditions shaping development of university education in Kenya;
  12. Have a demonstrable entrepreneurial acumen;
  13. Be a member in good standing of professional associations, where applicable;

  1. Be a team player with excellent interpersonal, organizational and effective communication skills;
  2. Have a sound and strong faith in Jesus Christ and have a demonstrated character which is honouring to God as guided by the Holy Scriptures;
  3. Have familiarity and understanding of the Sponsor (CITAM) with its values and approach to Christian ministry;
  4. Embrace and uphold the same values and standards as is expected of all leaders who work for the institutions owned by the Sponsor;
  5. Have the ability to portray and uphold positive national image and work in a multicultural and multi-ethnic environment with sensitivity to and respect for diversity;
  6. Be endowed with demonstrable logical and sound decision-making abilities within the context of a dynamic environment;
  7. Be bold and adept in negotiation, persuasion and with high emotional intelligence while at the same time being firm, fair, accountable and transparent in the conduct of duties;
  8. Be creative and innovative with a strong implementation, monitoring and evaluation focus;
  9. Be the right fit for the present and especially the future needs of the university; be the right person to take the university to that destination.

Remuneration

The successful candidate will be offered a remuneration package commensurate with the existing terms and conditions of service. This appointment is for a contractual period of five (5) years, renewable once for a further five (5) years subject to positive appraisal by the Council.
