Main Purpose of the Role: To Drive / Operate company vehicles in a safe, responsible, and efficient manner while ensuring that vehicle upkeep and maintenance is in accordance with company standards.
To support the Outreach team in their activities.

Key Responsibilities

Driver Duties

  • Drive assigned vehicle in a safe and efficient manner to minimize risk of accident, property damage and loss of life.
  • Performing daily safety and maintenance checks on assigned vehicle(s) before starting any trip to ensure that it is clean and in good operational condition and ensuring that it has sufficient fuel for the intended travels, trips, and errands.
  • Performing daily checks before leaving the company to confirm that all vehicle documentation, certificates and licenses as required by law are in the vehicle and are valid.
  • Reporting any maintenance, repair, breakdown, or accident matters to the Operations Officer as soon as possible.
  • Coordinating the repairs and servicing to vehicles as and when required.
  • Safeguarding the assigned vehicle(s) and parts thereof.
  • Safeguarding any goods and/or property in transit and pertaining documentation.
  • Taking charge of all company vehicles through performance of routine maintenance checks and ensuring that they are in good working conditions.
  • Checking and issuing vehicle maintenance reports; Mileage, tracking, fuel consumption, servicing, routine NTSA inspections for all company vehicles to the HR & Administration Officer.
  • Taking part in the investigation of any accidents and incidents that involve company vehicles.
  • Taking part in community mobilization activities for our outreach programs
  • Ferrying outreach patients to and from the camps, and the hospital’s branch, for further investigations and procedures.
  • Taking part in outreach programs in the capacity assigned
  • Performing any other responsibility that may be given by the Line Manager or any other person placed in authority over them.

Knowledge and Experience Required

  • Must be a holder of a PSV and Heavy Commercial Vehicles Driving Licence
  • Must possess a valid certificate of good conduct
  • Must possess an accident-free track record.
  • Must be computer literate as the role requires preparing and submission of related reports.
  • A minimum of Secondary School Form 4 certification
  • At least 3-year professional experience in a similar role.
  • Previous work experience in a hospital and/or participation in outreach activities shall be an added advantage.

Key Skills and Competencies Required

  • Excellent routes and regions orientation – should be well conversant with Nyeri region /routes/ roads.
  • Sound knowledge of motor vehicles and basic mechanical checks
  • Sound knowledge of state requirements, traffic rules, policies, and procedures to observe road safety and security
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to converse in the local dialect
  • Demonstrate community mobilisation/engagement skills
  • Ability to work well under pressure and thrive in a fast-paced medical environment.
  • Willing to contribute to areas beyond formal job description
  • Willingness to work a variety of hours as the business demands, including occasionally late nights & weekends.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to all parts of Kenya.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated ability to uphold and align oneself with the core values of city eye hospital.
