Driver (1 Post) – Turkana County
We are delighted to be recruiting for a talented Driver to join our team in Lodwar, Turkana County.
Reporting to the Transport Officer, Mary’s Meals driver will have the main responsibility of transporting goods and people throughout Mary’s Meals Kenya areas of operation.
He/she is responsible to ensure that passengers experience a safe and comfortable journey, and that they arrive on time.
When transporting goods, drivers take on the responsibility of ensuring they are transported to their destination in good-condition and with all necessary documentation.
Key duties & responsibilities for the role include:
- Efficiently deliver a wide variety of items to different locations throughout the programme country.
- Transport people and goods to and from destinations in a comfortable, safe, and efficient manner.
- Follow safe and legal driving practices always.
- Help passengers with their luggage and assisting them in getting in and out of vehicles, if required.
- Consult maps or navigation devices for desired routes.
- Conduct pre- and post-trip inspections focusing on checking engine fluids, inspecting interior and exterior electrical and mechanical components, maintaining tire pressure, and keeping fuel levels at adequate levels.
- Complete Daily Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIRs)
- Make sure the vehicle is fuelled, clean, and well maintained for each job.
- Load, unload, prepare, inspect, clean, and operate vehicles.
- Courteous in all driving and non-driving situations while on the job.
- Maintain a calm, rational behaviour and attitude under stressful driving conditions and refrain from inappropriate or abusive language and gestures.
- Keep written travel logs containing information such as mileage, locations, travel time, work hours, vehicle service entries and receipts.
- Ensure cargo is secured properly and is compliant with safety requirements.
- Ensure that all deliveries are accompanied by proper documentation (e.g. delivery notes) and undertake the responsibility of verifying the amounts delivered. Drivers must sign a delivery note for all deliveries of goods.
- Strictly follow routes and time schedules.
- Collect payments, supplies, quotations, or any other reasonable item as requested.
- Comply with all rules and regulations in the Mary’s Meals Fleet Manual.
- Any other reasonable responsibilities as assigned from time to time.
Qualifications, skills, and experience
Essential
- Clean valid driving license appropriate for the vehicle to be driven
- 10 years of experience driving vehicles, passengers, and cargo
- Exceptional driving skills
- Customer care skills
- Polite, diplomatic, and professional manner
- Punctual
- Ability to work flexible hours
- Excellent attention to detail
Desirable
- Basic knowledge of vehicle mechanics and 4x4s
- Geographical and route knowledge
- Familiarity with using vehicle tracking systems or digital fleet tools
