The Karen Hospital is a 102-bed multispecialty Hospital located along Karen-Langata Road, Nairobi-Kenya, aimed at providing specialized evidence-based healthcare services and referral facilities for the Africa region.
To support the delivery of world class, patient-centric care, we are seeking to recruit a highly motivated, visionary and result oriented candidate for the role of:
Position Title: Deputy Principal – Karen Hospital Medical College
Reporting to the Principal of the College, the incumbent will be responsible for the academic and disciplinary performance of the nursing students’ and plans and coordinate all activities related to this role.
In addition, assist the principal in the smooth running of the training school.
Key Responsibilities
- Spearhead setting, moderation, marking and compilation of major exam results;
- Ensure academic records of performance for all students are up to date as an academic officer in charge;
- Ensure that students maintain a high level of discipline in school and clinical practice placements;
- Leads the school disciplinary committee in discussing matters pertaining to individual student’s discipline;
- Prepare a scheme of work and lesson plan to be followed for the duration of all courses;
- Work closely with the principal in the general welfare of the staffs both teaching and non-teaching;
- Regularly update the teaching staff and students on any new development regarding nursing education and procedures;
- Maintain and develop professional competencies and knowledge by attending and participating in
continuous education sessions within and externally; and - Prepare and submit periodic reports on the overall management of the school and its staff.
Desired Experience and Qualifications
- Must be Licensed nurse.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience of classroom and clinical teaching experience at an institution of higher learning.
Desired Skills and Competencies
- Ability to teach using a variety of methods to effectively engage students in learning.
- Advanced computer skills and understanding of its use in a college setting.
- Able to counsel and mentor students and staff.
- Able to lead a large group of students.
- Able to manage a complex workload using prioritisation skills.
