Position Title: Finance Intern

Reports To: Programmes Accountant

Reporting To Postholder: None

Location: Nairobi Office

Duration & Hours: Full time for 4 months (with possibility of extension)

Purpose of The Role: Generally, the intern will ensure compliance with the basic standards contained in the Farm Africa finance procedures manual; to assist with the general financial management in the Kenya Country Office.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

Assist in ensuring all payment documentation are complete, coded and are confirmed for material correctness before forwarding to the Programmes Accountant (PA) for payment

a) Assist in reviewing petty cash

b) Assist in checking procurement documents for completeness as per checklist

c) Assist in reviewing fare refunds for consistency with fare charts and attendance lists

d) Assist in reviewing vehicle mileages for consistency with mileage logs and tracker records

e) Assist in checking advance retirements

f) Prepare a schedule of complete payments for the PA’s review

Printing and preparation of support documentations for donor expenditure verification

Support in filing, photocopying and scanning documents as and when required

Any other related duty assigned by the Finance Manager or his/ her designee

Essential Desirable

Education, qualifications & other knowledge

  • CPA Section 4 / Intermediate Level

Skills & abilities

  • Understanding of NGO principles and activities.
  • Sound understanding in financial processing and procurement processes
  • Excellent skills in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.
  • Keen to detail and accuracy required and willingness to learn
  • Strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to establish effective work
