Legal Associate Job Vacancy in Kenya – Estate Planning (Trusts) & Family Business Advisory

Our client, CM ADVOCATES LLP is a premier legal and business advisory firm in Kenya and within the East Africa Community (EAC) providing its customers with a one-stop-shop for their legal and business advisory needs.

The Nairobi Head Office seeking to fill the following position:

Position Title: Associate – Estate Planning (Trusts) & Family Business Advisory

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Estate planning advisory- wills, trusts;
  • Preparation of Wills;
  • Creation of Trusts – Preparation of trust deeds, petitions and undertaking registration at Ministry of Lands.
  • Preparation of tax exemption applications and statutory forms.
  • Structuring Family-Owned businesses including complex group holdings/ structures
  • Participate in mergers, acquisitions and divestitures and other share deals;
  • Corporate governance advisory with a focus on Family Owned businesses;
  • Drafting of a Shareholders’ agreement, family employment policies and other governance documentation ideal for for Family-Owned companies;
  • Transfer of family properties to a family holding company (for ease of administration and tax efficiency) or between associated companies;
  • Helping in establishment of a Family Office;
  • Registration of Family foundation or Charity;
  • Advise on equity incentives for family owners and non-family employees; and
  • Basic tax advisory on the foregoing aspects.

Qualifications, Experience, and knowledge:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Law;
  • Minimum of four (4) years post admission experience;
  • Knowledgeable in conveyancing and commercial law;
  • Excellent drafting skills;
  • Demonstrated experience in transactional lawyering; and
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Confident & pleasant personality is an added advantage.
