Mdundo is Africa’s leading online music service. The company has 20 million monthly users, across Africa, with Nigeria, Ghana, Tanzania, and Kenya being the main markets.
We have music from over 100,000 African musicians and 1.7m international songs available through licensing agreements with international partners.
Mdundo has experienced rapid growth in recent years and we are currently a team of 40 full-time staff spread across Africa. Mdundo aims to grow to 50 million monthly users before June 2025.
We offer millions of songs from Africa and abroad for free download and streaming.
The music can be accessed directly from our website (mdundo.com) and Android app, including the newest releases, DJ mixes, playlists, podcasts, and music news.
We monetize our platform through advertisement sales as well as telco-bundle subscriptions paid by the end consumer.
We pay the rights owners a revenue split on all revenue generated on the recordings.
The company did an IPO in September 2020 and is listed at Nasdaq First North Growth Markets in Copenhagen, Denmark.
About the role:
We are looking for a strategic yet hands-on content marketing guru to help our business elevate our content marketing efforts.
This is a new role created to support the Head of Growth, and work alongside the content production and acquisition team.
The ideal candidate will lead our content strategy ensuring quality content production, efficient content acquisition from key partners, impactful content distribution and user retention.
Job Objectives
- Deliver departmental objectives by executing all content marketing strategies across key markets.
- Oversee and optimise customer retention, satisfaction, feedback, and SEO engagement across all Mdundo markets.
- Ensure recruitment of the right team as well as their motivation and development.
Success Criteria:
- Grow retention of users and subscribers across all Mdundo content offerings.
- Gain positive feedback and rating from users leveraging high quality content.
- Acquire and maintain good relationships with key content partners.
Responsibilities
- Propose, implement, or lead improvements to content marketing strategy, plan, and process.
- Content Creation: Manage content production for a variety of content formats: audio/podcast, video, and text.
- Content Distribution: Ensure all content is optimized to deliver users from search channels (SEO) and partner channels.
- Collaboration: Work cross-functionally with strategic partners, internal teams, available resources, and agencies to plan, develop and deliver quality content.
- Analytics: Track and report content performance metrics and use that data in content-planning cycles.
- Project Management: Manage end-to-end development of content with internal teams, ensuring all production deliverables are met on time and within scope on multiple concurrent projects.
- Media Relations: Lead acquisition of valuable partnerships by leveraging media contacts.
Qualifications
- BS/BA degree, preferably (but not necessarily) in Marketing, Communications, or Journalism.
- Strong project and program management skills.
- In-depth entertainment industry experience in Africa.
- Good understanding of SEO and how it impacts content marketing including keyword planning and ranking.
- Experience working with agencies to deliver on projects.
- Experience working with acquiring content from key digital and traditional partners across Africa
- Experience producing or supervising content in audio (DJ mixes, football, comedy, video, and text formats)
- Experience managing a team is key.
