Position Title: Occupational Safety & Health Officer (Manufacturing)
Location: Thika, Kiambu County
Reports to: CEO
Our client, a bread manufacturing and supply company, is hiring an experienced Occupational Safety & Health Officer to join their team.
Job Summary: Responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive set of quality and safety (QS) policies and procedures for the group of companies, oversee the day-to-day operations of the QS within the Group, ensuring compliance of policies and law, achieving a safe workplace and a healthy workforce thereby enhancing productivity as well as meeting Occupational Health and Safety Act 2007 regulatory and other accreditation requirements.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Drive a Health & Safety Culture in the organization in conjunction with the department teams.
- Establish baseline Safety Management System (SMS) reporting standards and measures e.g. identifying hazards, mitigations, non-punitive reporting of incidences, etc.
- Advocate for funding to resolve hazards and reduce incidents, etc.
- Co-ordinate Quality Management System (ISO 9001) activities as per the Standard’s requirements.
- Co-ordinate Environmental Management System (ISO 14001) activities as per the Standard’s requirements.
- Coordinate and initiate follow-up of the ISO /Environmental Management Systems internal audits.
- Maintain, analyze and trend the area’s quality, environmental and SMS records to determine the level of the systems performance
- Prepare accurate and timely monthly reports on all aspects of quality, safety and health matters.
- Conduct periodic audits of work practices to check compliance with established operational standards.
- Adhere to the occupational safety and health policy, statutory/ legal requirements as expressed in the occupational safety and health Act (OSHA-2007), Energy Act, safety regulations, Environmental
- Management Coordination Act and local authorities by-laws pertaining to health and safety.
- Liaise with the local authorities on mitigation of impacts of actual and potential emergency situations in the installations
- Ensure that the area installations have safety systems of work in place.
- Ensure that the right training pertaining to quality, safety and environmental management systems are undertaken by employees periodically.
- Any other work assigned to the Officer with regard to hygiene, quality, environment and safety at work place.
Key Skills and Competencies:
- Relevant Health /Environment/ Engineering Bachelor’s degree
- Training in Occupational Safety and Health
- Basic knowledge and skills in research will be an added advantage.
- Computer literacy & proficient in Microsoft office packages
- A minimum of 3 years working experience in Occupational Safety & Health role preferably in FMCG production environment
