Position Title: Underwriter

Job Summary: The jobholder is responsible for evaluating applicants for insurance, analyzing their risk profile and calculating the cost implications / premiums.
Essential functions
- Ensure that systems, processes, procedures, policies and standards applicable to underwriting and
risk management are adhered to. - Compute competitive quote in line with underwriting philosophy and discuss with your
supervisor before releasing the quote to the client. - Examining and scrutinizing insurance proposals forms & risk notes before issuing the policy
document. - Liaising with insurance brokers and agents in case the proposal form & risk notes are faulty.
- Ensured policy documents are issued within the set turnaround time and communicate with
intermediaries on confirmation of receipt of policy documents and any other related documents. - Preparing renewal invitation- Renewal notices & Schedules two month to policy expiry.
- Discuss with supervisor on loss making accounts before sending the renewal invites for guidance.
- Follow up on renewal instructions to ensure 100% renewal retention and obtain reasons for
cancelation or policy lapsation in case of lost business. - Ensure new and lost businesses are updated in our daily report.
- Issue cover note for businesses held on cover pending the intermediary risk notes/proposal
forms. - Conducting the in house surveys within 30 days for risks allocated to you and follow up on
implementation of risk improvement measures. - Dealing with correspondences in accordance with the mail handling procedures on issues of
underwriting. - Visiting intermediaries and accompanying them when visiting potential clients (on request).
- Receiving phone calls from clients and attend
- Keeping detailed and accurate records of policies underwritten and decision made
- Prepare monthly reports as guided by the supervisor.
- Over all compliance with risk management framework and company policies
Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor.
Skills and Competences
- Bachelors’ degree in a business related field
- Diploma ACII/AIIK will be an added advantage
- At least two years working experience in the insurance industry
- Computer literate
