Kentegra Pyrethrum Company Limited located in Nakuru is looking to recruit a Seed Nursery Manager.
This position will be based in Subukia.
The overall responsibility for this role is to fully manage the nursery.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Key roles for this position are:-
- Lead efforts to produce best quality and quantity of Pyrethrum seeds.
- Leading the nursery staff in weekly and monthly meetings for planning, updates and strategizing on seed production processes.
- Develop and maintain an internal standard operating procedure as relates to nursery operations.
- Design seeds production schedules. Make decisions on planting/sowing calendars, fertilizer application. pest and disease control.
- Hire, train, oversee and provide nursery staff with proper crop management techniques and procedures for pyrethrum plant care.
- Manage and coordinate the day-to-day activities of nursery management to ensure the crop is maintained well and with optimum production.
- Oversee seed processing, packaging and dispatch to farmers
- Work closely with all nursery services providers to ensure efficient service delivery.
- Ensure all staff and visitors adhere to occupational health and safety procedures whenever within nursery premises.
- Develop budgetary requirements for the nursery activities and inputs.
- Setting research objectives and producing research plans and budgets
- Participate on researching on new methods of pyrethrum breeding and agronomy.
- Plan for field trials, analyzing/interpreting and presenting research findings to the company.
- Execute research protocols.
- Carrying out seedlings production projection and simulation.
- Approval of nursery field-staff Payrolls.
- Keeping the Nursery financial records
- Custodian of all company equipment’s and inputs at the nursery.
- Maintain an inventory of all company items at the nursery.
Qualifications and work experience required for this role
- At least 5 years of Professional experience in managing large farms, research units for 3+ years and relevant Agronomy/production management experience with demonstrated achievements and advancement
- Excellent communication and leadership skills
- Proven work experience as a team leader and experience in managing teams.
- Evidence of managing people with respect to promote a caring, teamwork geared towards continuous improvement.
- Excellent strategic, analytical, creative and presentation skills.
- Excellent decision making and organizational skills.
- Great understanding of seed production procedures, registration and certification.
- Understanding crop production, scouting and management of plants diseases and insect pests.
- Effective and efficient planner with excellent communication skills
