Position Title: Lead Internal Auditor

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is an impartial, neutral and independent organisation with the exclusively humanitarian mission to protect the lives and dignity of victims of war and other forms of violence and provide them with assistance.

It also endeavours to prevent suffering by promoting and strengthening International Humanitarian Law and universal humanitarian principles.

The ICRC’s Regional Delegation in Nairobi is a hub that co-ordinates the institution’s humanitarian activities in Kenya, Tanzania and Djibouti and hosts the organizations’ regional logistics, technical and training support units serving the Horn and Great Lakes Region.

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY

The incumbent supports Internal Audit in the discharge of its duties as set out in Article 50 of the ICRC Internal Regulations: to evaluate the relevance, effectiveness and efficiency of ICRC’s governance, risk-management and control processes at headquarters and in the field.

The position holder’s specific focus within Internal Audit will be on engagements related to ICRC presence and activities in the countries of operations (ICRC Delegations) worldwide.

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

As a member of the team, you will be called upon to perform the following tasks based on the International Professional Practice Framework (IPPF) of the IIA:

  • Perform audit engagement as per the Annual Audit Plan approved by the Assembly (i.e. thematic, delegation, investigations, specific topics, etc);
  • Evaluates the ICRC delegations’ governance, risk management, internal control system, strategies and operations;
  • Evaluates ICRC delegations’ compliance with laws, regulations, strategies, policies and procedures in place;
  • Evaluates whether the ICRC’s resources are used in an effective and efficient manner and are protected adequately;
  • Contributes to the methodology and strategy of the Internal Audit and support the team in studying and identifying trends related to the Internal Audit areas of concern;
  • Maintain high-quality work standards and remain up to date with the evolution of standards and practices;
  • May coordinate a small team in the conduct of audit engagements in complex environments;
  • Provide expertise and input as per your area(s) of specialization into audit assignments or investigations, as needed / requested by the Internal Audit management;
  • Improve data-related internal audit processes and effectiveness through proactive automation and analysis, where appropriate;
  • Availability to travel frequently (at least 3 missions per year, 3 week-long each time).

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS AND COMPETENCIES

  • University degree (preferably Master’s) in a relevant discipline;
  • Minimum of 12-15 years’ experience in internal or external audit – required;
  • Humanitarian experience and/or experience in ICRC / International Organisations / NGOs – an asset;
  • Professional certification related to auditing (CIA, CRMA, CISA…) – preferable;
  • Excellent command of verbal and written English – required;
  • Knowledge of French, Portuguese or Spanish – preferable.
