Position Title: Program Officer – Qualitative Research
International Center for Reproductive Health Kenya (ICRHK) is a Kenya-based Non-Governmental.
ICRHK conducts research and intervention projects in Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH), specifically in HIV/STI, Sexual, and Gender-based violence, Maternal and Child Health/Family Planning and in Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health.
Overview: We intend to employ a Program Officer who is highly experienced in qualitative research.
The incumbent will work closely with a multidisciplinary team comprising the Principal Investigator / National FP expert and the National Monitoring and Evaluation Expert to lead qualitative research efforts as part of third-party monitoring for a national FP program.
He/She will
1) coordinate field activities including recruitment, training, and supervision of research assistants,
2) oversee data collection through focus group discussions, in-depth interviews/Key informant interviews, and direct observation,
3) conduct qualitative analysis of data, prepare study reports, and disseminate findings, and
4) participate in journal publications and professional conference presentations.
Other key responsibilities include preparing documents for submission to ethics review committees, ensuring adherence to data handling and confidentiality, and quality control.
Minimum Qualifications Required:
- Education: At least a Bachelor’s degree in medical anthropology, medical sociology, public health or a related field emphasizing qualitative research methods training.
- Verifiable experience in performing qualitative data analysis using NVivo, Dedoose or any to other related qualitative analysis software
- Specific experience and skills required:
- 2+ years’ experience in research involving human participants
- 2+ years conducting in-depth interviewing, focus group discussions, and participant observation.
- Experience supervising field data collectors
- Strong organizational, planning, and problem solving skills
- Strong interpersonal skills and a team player
- Excellent written, verbal and visual communication skills are required.
Qualifications Preferred:
Any of the following additional experience is preferred.
- Previous experience working with health care providers and patients
- Research plan development and execution
- Coordination of multi-county studies and interventions
Candidate must be able to:
- Assist with report creation, including writing, analysis, and chart and table creation in Excel or PowerPoint.
- Detailed note-taking during client calls and meetings.
- Able to effectively problem solve logistical issues and self-initiate solutions. Proactively identify issues and suggest solutions on how to make projects run more smoothly.
