Practical Action has been implementing interventions to address the inequalities that exist in the energy sector and empower women since 2014, in partnership with ENERGIA and others. The Women in Energy Enterprises in Kenya (WEEK3) Phase 3 project is a 4-year project (October 2022 – 30th September 2026) funded by ENERGIA International Network on Gender and Sustainable Energy as part of the larger programme dubbed: Women Driving Energy Transition and Climate Justice. The programme’s main goal is to ensure that women have an equal opportunity to lead, participate in and benefit from energy access and a just and inclusive energy transition, as an essential right to development.
The WEEK3 project is being implemented in five counties in Kenya, including Meru, Tharaka Nithi, Embu, Kitui and Nairobi.
The project focuses on promoting gender equality and empowering women economically through engagement in clean energy value chains and in productive use of energy. The project aims to increase access to clean energy solutions, enhance economic opportunities, and improve the livelihoods of women entrepreneurs in Kenya.
The project’s key intervention areas include, Women Economic Empowerment, Advocating and Influencing for Enabling Energy Markets and Policy Environment, Integration of Gender-Transformative Approaches in Energy Policies and Programs and Thought Leadership (Acquiring, generating and disseminating robust data, evidence and knowledge to enhance the gender responsiveness of energy policies and practices).
Practical Action is therefore looking for a Project Manager whose primary responsibility will be to oversee all aspects of project delivery including development of work plans and budgets, contract management and donor liaison, partner relationships and coordination of field activities.
To be successful in the role, you will have a Master's degree in a relevant field e.g. Energy, Gender Studies, Development Studies, International Development, Rural Development, Community Development), At least seven (7) years demonstrated experience and expertise in gender-responsive project design and implementation particularly in the energy sector, experience in fundraising and building networks with relevant stakeholders including County and National Governments, private sector, CSOs and development partners. experience in private sector engagement and market development, experience in capacity building, financial inclusion and behavior change communications (BCC). Experience in BDS curriculum development, experience working in gender and energy programs and immediate availability is desirable.
