Habitat for Humanity

Position Title: Project Management Consultancy

Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI), founded in 1976, is a global Christian-based nonprofit organization which grew out of an intentionally multi-racial community in rural Georgia. Seeking to put God’s love into action, Habitat brings together people of all faiths and people of no faith to build homes, communities and hope. Working alongside each other, we help families and individuals build and improve places to call home and achieve the strength, stability and self-reliance they need to build better lives for themselves. Habitat for Humanity seeks individuals who have a willingness to affirm these principles and values.

Background - Habitat for Humanity in Africa

A world where everyone has a decent place to live.

Globally, housing supply falls short of demand with more than a billion people living in slums or informal settlements with 80% attributed to three regions: Eastern and South-Eastern Asia (370 million), sub-Saharan Africa (238 million) and Central and Southern Asia (227 million). The United Nations further estimates that 3 billion people will require adequate and affordable housing by 2030.

The housing deficit is a massive challenge in African countries where demand for affordable, adequate housing is far outstripping supply, resulting in half of the population living in sub-standard conditions. More than 60% of African urban households lived in slum conditions in 2018, or 238 million people. Experts project that this figure is certain to grow daily for the next 15 years.

Through shelter, we empower.

Driven by the vision that everyone needs a decent place to live, Habitat for Humanity began in 1976 as a grassroots effort, growing to become a leading global nonprofit working in more than 70 countries. In the Africa we are active in Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia, Malawi, Tanzania, Lesotho, Zambia, South Africa, and Ivory Coast.
