Position Title: Monitoring Officer Assistant- South
Organisation Background:
Founded in 2011, the International NGO Safety Organisation (INSO) is an international non-governmental organisation that supports humanitarian aid workers by establishing safety coordination platforms in insecure contexts. INSO provides registered NGOs with a range of free services, including real-time incident tracking, analytical reports, safety-related data and mapping, crisis management support, staff orientations and training.
INSO provides daily support to more than 1000 NGOs operating in 16 of the world’s most insecure countries.
INSO is registered in the Netherlands with its headquarters based in The Hague, the international city of peace and justice.
INSO Kenya (Monitoring Mission)
INSO Kenya was founded as a standard NGO safety platform in 2012. In 2018, it transformed into the monitoring mission now integrated into INSO’s Horn of Africa program. The Kenya project supports 143 NGOs with INSO staff operating from offices in Nairobi, Dadaab, and Isiolo. We are now hiring a Monitoring Officer Assistant- South. This position is based in Nairobi, Kenya.
Job Summary:
Reporting to the Deputy Monitoring Officer, South, the Monitoring Officer Assistant (MOA) will ensure delivery of all INSO Services in line with Service Delivery Standards (SDS) and other policies and procedures.
Main Responsibilities:
- Delivery of INSO Services, notably Alerts, Reports, Site Security Review/Compound Assessments
- Develop, verify, and summarize safety and security information in a concise and actionable format; enter the information into Conflict Humanitarian Data Center (CHDC).
- Networking- liaise closely with NGOs, the United Nations, the military, and other national and international security agencies to obtain relevant information for NGOs.
- Working closely with Field Monitors in the Counties.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
Essential:
- Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
- University degree (Bachelor) in social sciences, humanitarian affairs, security or a related field, or a relevant practical experience.
- Excellent knowledge of the region, geography, demography and conflict dynamics.
- Ability to periodically travel to other destinations in the region and beyond.
- Experience in the humanitarian and/or risk management and/or humanitarian access sectors.
- A good understanding of NGO approaches to safety and security.
- A proven ability to develop and maintain working relationships with partners.
- Excellent computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office, SharePoint.
Nice to Have:
- Knowledge of Data Entry
- Skills in context and humanitarian access analysis.
- Acceptance and understanding of humanitarian principles.
