Position Title: Biomed Energy Technician
Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an independent international medical humanitarian organization providing assistance to people affected by armed conflicts, epidemics, natural or non-natural disasters, or persons excluded from access to health care. The organization has health projects in more than 70 countries.
MSF France has had a significant presence in Kenya since 1996. In Mathare Lavender House Clinic, MSF runs a 24-hour SGBV Clinic for victims of sexual and gender-based violence and an Emergency program that provides pre-hospital care and trauma/medical stabilization. We also have a clinic in Dandora offering youth-friendly services to those between the ages of 10 to 24 years. All our services are free including a toll-free hotline.
MSF France Mathare is looking to fill the position of a Bio-med & Energy Technician. The successful candidate reports to the Mission Bio-med and Energy Specialist.
Objective of the Position:
Performing autonomously and following up, the maintenance and correct repair of the bio-med equipment and electrical and other energy systems in the project/mission and ensuring regularly that the usual medical maintenance and cleaning are done properly according to MSF standards and procedures, in order to ensure the equipment and installations are in perfect running condition.
Responsibilities include but not limited to:
Performing and carrying out, all necessary complex / advanced installation, maintenance and repair of MSF biomedical equipment and ensuring that as few items are out of service at any given time. This includes the following tasks :
- Organizing and participating in the installation of biomedical equipment
- Following the schedule and carrying out preventive and curative maintenance works for the equipment according to the MSF and/or manufacturer's protocols, manuals, and recommendations and ensuring that cleaning and simple maintenance are properly carried out by medical staff
- Reporting any issues or problems on bio-med equipment to his/her supervisor and proposing solutions (training of staff on a device, operating procedures, etc.).
- Participating in organizing user training where required
- Ensuring that all record sheets and books related to maintenance are always completed (including date of intervention, replaced parts, problems, and solutions) and preparing needed reports before and after any repair or required maintenance
- Ensuring all electrical installations in MSF facilities comply with MSF standards and performing autonomously and ensuring, all necessary complex / advanced electrical installations, maintenance and repairs, according to the supervisor’s instructions.
- Carrying out critical rehabilitation tasks and corrective maintenance interventions and the coordination and execution of required tasks as well as installation of needed electrical equipment as defined by each project.
- Elaborating the necessary documentation for carrying out energy installations projects (plans, list of materials, etc.)
- Carrying out and updating the electrical installations inventory in MSF missions’ facilities and performing annual maintenance procedures and safety checks across facilities in the project. Executing any needed tests after any repair or maintenance.
- Identifying local technical actors, and organizing their participation in the project (training of technical staff, establishing relations with local companies, contractors and suppliers, quotations, contracts, etc.)
- Making suggestions regarding any repair or maintenance work needed in MSF electrical installations and equipment and assisting logistics department with any urgent support/advice or any relative work needed
- Managing the stock of consumable items related to electrical installation, repairs, and maintenance, filling in the stock cards, carrying out physical stock inventories, executing orders necessary for renewing stock, avoiding any shortage
- Responsible for the equipment and tools (including extinguishers), checking they are correctly and safely used, maintaining, and renewing them when necessary and keeping the inventory updated.
Qualifications & Requirements:
Education
Essential: Diploma in Electrical/Mechanical/ Biomedical Technology
Experience
Essential: Minimum 2 years of experience as a Biomedical Technician
Demonstrable technical skills and understanding
Desirable: Previous working experience as an electrician
Desirable: At least 1 year of working experience with MSF or another NGO
Pedagogical skills are an asset
Knowledge
Computer Literacy-MS-Office, Software, Internet, AUTOCAD(Similar) Fluency is desirable
Languages
English and Swahili
