Position Title: Study Coordinator & Research Assistants
Study Description:
The tuberculosis preventive therapy (TPT) cascade study intends to evaluate the uptake, adherence and outcomes of the new short-course tuberculosis preventive therapy (weekly isoniazid with rifapentine [3HP]) among people living with HIV in Kenya. The TPT study will also explore the feasibility of monitoring adherence to 3HP using urine biomarkers of INH in a prospective cohort of people living with HIV. The study seeks to recruit a highly motivated and pro-active individuals to fill in the following vacancies;
Position: Study Coordinator (1 position)
Location: JOOTRH, Kisumu
Reporting to: PI
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Coordinate all research activities
- Supervision of Research Assistants
- Screen HIV patients to assess potential eligibility for participation in the TPT study.
- Recruit and enroll participants into the study and other related study procedures.
- Maintain adequate supplies at the study sites
- Ensure strict compliance with ethical requirements for conduct of research, privacy and confidentiality of study participants and their data including supporting the informed consent process.
- Submit summaries of recruitment and enrolment reports to the study PI
- Perform urine sample collection and testing using dipstick
- Attend regular meetings with the PI to discuss study progress and activities
- Provide support for non-research activities at the facility.
- Any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Essential Requirements:
For appointment to this position, a candidate must have: -
- A degree in Public Health/ Community Health and Development or its equivalent from a recognized institution.
- MUST have two years’ experience as a study Coordinator with HIV /TB Research: Experience in urine sample collection and testing will be an added advantage.
- Experience working in HIV/TB research an added advantage
- Excellent computer skills (Attach certificate)
- Excellent use of REDCAP for data collection
- Experience in electronic data collection using smartphones or tablets.
- Must have up to date GCP/HSP certificate.
Desired Qualities:
- Ability to maintain project schedules and work extra hours and even over the weekends.
- Team player with ability to work closely with MOH staff at the clinic
- Ability to adhere to study protocol
- Ability to perform all duties and responsibilities independently, in a timely manner with minimal supervision

- Excellent communication skills:
- Good organizational skills
- Able to work with minimal supervision
- Language skills: fluency in English, Kiswahili, MUST be fluent in LUO
Position: Research Assistant (4 positions)
Location: Kisumu County
Reporting to: Study Coordinator
Job Summary: The Officer will abstract clinical information from medical records, identify and recruit eligible study participants for the prospective cohort, obtain informed consent, and ensure participant follow-up and retention. He/She must be flexible and work within the existing structures, in a professional and ethical manner with competence, accountability and integrity.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Abstract clinical information from medical records
- Screen HIV patients to assess potential eligibility for participation in the TPT cascade study.
- Recruit and enroll participants into the study and other related study procedures.
- Administer questionnaires to study participants
- Maintain proper communication between study site and study coordinator
- Maintain adequate supplies at the study sites (for example, study forms)
- Ensure strict compliance with ethical requirements for conduct of research, privacy and confidentiality of study participants and their data including supporting the informed consent process.
- Submit summaries of recruitment and enrolment to the study coordinator and suggest any improvements to the study flow as appropriate.
- Perform urine sample collection and testing using urine dipstick tests
- Attend regular meetings with the Study coordinator to discuss study progress and activities
- Provide support for non-research activities at the facility.
- Any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Essential Requirements:

- Certificate in Public Health/ Community Health and Development, Community Health, Social Work or related field
- MUST have a minimum of one year of experience in clinical research on HIV/TB: Experience with urine sample collection and testing will be an added advantage.
- Experience working in HIV/TB research an added advantage
- Excellent computer skills (Attach certificate)
- Excellent use of REDCAP for data collection
- Experience in electronic data collection using smartphones or tablets.
- Must have up to date GCP/HSP certificate.
